BALI VILLA WEDDINGS ARE NOT MORE EXPENSIVE THAN WEDDINGS AT OTHER VENUES !!
At least not necessarily. So why there is a common misperception out there that villa weddings are more expensive? That is because when comparing the cost of another type of wedding to a villa wedding most people forget that they are comparing apples to oranges.
Let me define first what I mean by a villa wedding in Bali. I am talking about a wedding held in the garden of large villa plus a reception / dinner in the evening. Such a villa has at least 4 bed rooms and a spacious garden of at least thousand often up to several thousand square meters. And I am also talking about weddings with at least 20, 30 guest – sometimes up to 100 and above. I am not talking about small bungalows that have one or two bedrooms and a tiny garden. Just have a look at the following photograph to get an idea what I mean.
To understand why villa weddings are often considered to be expensive let’s look first at a wedding at another venue such as a chapel, a beach or a hotel / resort. There the cost usually includes:
- Venue fee – cost for wedding ceremony & reception location
- Décor of the venue
- Cost for the ceremony
And now comes the important part: Such a wedding will not include the cost for accommodation for the couple and other people attending your wedding.
But a villa wedding will usually include accommodation for at least 6-8 persons for 3 to 5 days!!
That is why you need to be careful comparing the cost of a villa wedding to another type of wedding.
A typical Bali villa suitable for weddings has 4 or more bedrooms. And usually you need to book the villa for 3,4 or 5 minimum nights. The bride and the groom will anyway most likely stay for 3 or more nights in Bali and will require accommodation. So will the parents, the best friends or other people attending your wedding.
So please keep the following in mind when you compare the cost:
A Bali villa wedding comes with at least 12 – 20 room nights included
So, now what you need to figure out is: Who pays for those room nights that come as part of a Bali villa wedding. If it is beyond your wedding budget to also pay for those room nights then you need to convince others to stay with you for a couple of days in ultimate luxury and pay for it themselves.
After all they would need to pay for their accommodation in Bali by themselves anyway. At least that applies for most destination weddings in Bali.
It should not be too hard to convince the parents or your friends to stay with you in the villa because not even the best suite rooms in the best 5 star hotels in Bali can offer you the comfort and luxury a villa can.
A Bali villa wedding can actually be an inexpensive option
All things considered, a Bali villa wedding can actually also be the least costly option. Especially when you take into consideration the luxury and comfort that a private villa has to offer.
Add to this the fact that the typical bed rooms in most of Bali’s villas are larger and thus much more comfortable than hotel rooms. You have your own private pool, large verandas, super spacious gardens and what you get is a true luxury experience. Then a villa wedding actually starts to look rather inexpensive.
One thing is for sure: a Bali villa wedding is the most cost effective type of wedding you can have in Bali. Or in more casual speak: a villa wedding gives you the most bang for your buck.
Popular Bali wedding villas have 4,5 or more bedrooms. There are also villas with 10 – 12 bedrooms. Some villas are part of villa complexes with several villas. In those places it may be possible to accommodate everyone attending your wedding. Ask you wedding planner to find the right villa for you.
Also keep in mind that a villa wedding offers you:
- 100 % Privacy
- 100 % Freedom of choice in terms of vendors you appoint for your wedding
- Unmatched luxury and comfort
- Heaps of space
- Unlimited options in terms of décor and scheduling
- The holiday of a life-time
The other cost components necessary for a destination wedding in Bali such as décor, ceremony, priest / celebrant , photographers, makeup & hair, etc.. are the same for a villa wedding than for any other type of wedding venue in Bali.
For a Bali villa wedding you can choose your own vendors
However hotel / resort weddings often force you to buy their photographer, their makeup artists and other vendors. And you often will end up with services below your expectations or with package inclusions that you don’t need. With a villa wedding you have all the freedom to choose whoever and whatever YOU want.
Another misperception is that it is cheaper to book a villa directly via the villa’s website, rather than through a wedding planner. Or that there is little use for a wedding planner because you can anyway organize it all by yourself.
Sorry ladies that is not true. A good wedding planner will actually help you to save money!! And choosing vendors and organizing it all yourself from overseas is not for the faint-hearted.
In the following article you can learn more about the cost of a villa wedding in Bali.
I hope I have been able to give you a new perspective on Bali villa weddings. Now all you have to do is find some family and / or friends who want to spend the holiday of a lifetime with you. How hard can that be... ?

Hi Cameron
My fiance and i are getting married at a villa in Changgu in Nov 2014.
We visited Bali in Feb for 9 days to look at venues and met with 3 Wedding Planners. 2 of the planners were great, however they are not cheap. Because my fiance and i are doing the legal side of things in Australia first, this has reduced cost for us. We are fortunate to have a friend who lives in Bali who is also helping us with alot with aspects of our wedding. I wanted to ask you though, who you used for Florist, Event Decoration, Photography & Videography. Any advice or recommendation would be helpful & appreciative.
Thank you
Hi there,
Can you recommended any good villas that will accmodate a wedding of 70guests in the kuta/seminyak area.
Thanks
Hi there,
I recommend that you discuss this with your wedding planner.
Thanks – Jameela
Hi there, I recently had my wedding at the venue in the top photo. The total cost compared to doing it anywhere here at home (Sydney) was significantly less. We had 70 guests attend all spent a week in Bali altogether. This combined to make the event even more special as everyone had the opportunity to get into the spirit of the event leading up to it. We hired a planner who assisted us for the 10 months leading up, with everything from flowers, music, celebrant, photographer etc. Even with a quick 2 day visit 4 months prior to the wedding, we still ended up way ahead of if we had had the wedding here at home. The villa latitude was an amazing setting (pool was a little dirty) for the wedding and we had the most amazing day.
Thanks Cameron!! I am sure this is very useful to our visitors and other couples.
